Applications

Designed for moisture-sensitive and regulated commodity trade

Fumiable is engineered for environments where moisture variability, fumigation consistency, and structural durability directly influence commercial outcomes.

Hygroscopic Commodities

Suitable for cocoa, coffee, specialty grains, and other moisture-sensitive agricultural exports. Controlled porosity supports airflow consistency, while reinforced structure improves handling reliability during stacking and long-distance transit.

Built for Regulated Trade Environments

OPERATIONAL CONTEXT

High-volume warehousing
• Containerized export routes
• Compliance-driven inspection systems
• Weight-sensitive trade contracts

Fumiable performs where operational predictability reduces risk exposure.

The Problem

Post-harvest losses in hygroscopic commodities such as cocoa and coffee are frequently driven by packaging failure, not just pests or climate.

Traditional jute sacks provide high breathability but no control.

Their fibers:

• Absorb and release moisture unpredictably.

• Create uneven airflow pathways within stacked cargo

• Develop localized mould pockets

• Fluctuate in weight under humidity changes

• Tear / shed fibers under load and repeated handling

• Exhibit inconsistent fumigation penetration

• Carry potential MOSH/MOAH contamination risks

Conventional polypropylene (PP) woven packaging, while recyclable, present the opposite failure mode:

• Very low air permeability

• Moisture entrapment and condensation during container temperature cycling

• Restricted fumigation gas diffusion

• Survival pockets and reinfestation risk during long transit.

In both systems, the packaging itself becomes a vector of spoilage.

Fumiable® is a mono-material woven polypropylene packaging technology engineered to deliver controlled airflow, stable moisture behavior, and predictable fumigation outcome.

Unlike traditional materials that rely on passive fiber behavior, Fumiable® is designed to:

• Enable uniform fumigation gas diffusion through stacked mass

• Maintain moisture equilibrium without absorption

• Minimize condensation formation during temperature fluctuations

• Provide high tensile strength and dimensional stability

• Delivery a clean food-contact profile

• Support reuse and mechanical recyclability

The result is a packaging system that actively reduces post-harvest loss risk rather than contributing to it.

How can Fumiable® Meaningfully Reduce Food Loss

1. Predictable Fumigation Outcome

Optimized permeability allows even gas distribution, reducing survival pockets and reinfestation events.

2. Moisture Stability

Low moisture uptake and controlled airflow reduce mold formation caused by trapped humidity or fiber saturation.

3. Structural Integrity

Improved mechanical strength lowers rupture, spillage, and handling damage during export logistics.

4. Storage Performance

Stable internal airflow conditions help preserve quality throughout warehousing and maritime shipment.

Fumiable® supports sustainability through measurable loss prevention, material efficiency, and logistics optimization.

1. Food Loss Prevention

Reduced mould formation and improved fumigation reliability decrease commodity spoilage. Preventing food waste delivers significantly higher climate impact reduction than marginal packaging substitutions.

2. Fumigation Efficiency

Engineered permeability enables predictable gas diffusion, reducing survival pockets and minimizing repeat fumigation cycles. This lowers chemical usage and associated environmental burden.

3. Material Efficiency & Weight Optimization

A Fumiable® sack weighs approximately 350 grams for a 65-kg rated load, whereas a traditional jute sack of equivalent capacity weighs approximately 750 grams.

This represents:

• ~53% reduction in packaging weight per unit

• Lower raw material consumption per shipment

• Reduced transport mass across the entire logistics chain

At container scale, the cumulative reduction in packaging mass translates into:

• Increased net commodity payload capacity

• Lower fuel consumption per transported tonne

• Reduced transport-related emissions

Weight consistency also improves container loading predictability and eliminates humidity-driven mass fluctuation common in natural fiber sacks.

4. Circular Material Profile

Fumiable® is a mono-material polypropylene construction:

• Mechanically recyclable

• Structurally durable for reuse cycles

• Free from natural fiber oils and processing residues

5. Extended Service Life

Higher tensile strength and dimensional stability reduce rupture and spillage losses, lowering replacement frequency compared to conventional PP woven packaging.

Reducing Variability at the Packaging Level

Across commodities and trade routes, Fumiable is designed to improve predictability where moisture control, fumigation performance, and structural reliability matter most.

Fumiable is an engineering-led packaging company developing a patented polypropylene woven jute-replacement system for regulated commodity trade, designed for controlled permeability, structural durability, and measurable performance.
